Fruit Routes series
Fruit is inextricably linked to certain cultures and countries in our minds – think Seville oranges, Italian tomatoes and New Zealand kiwis.
Yet many originated thousands of miles from where we think they belong in the 21st century.
Their journeys across the globe, mostly from Asia and from south and central America, reflect the currents of human history and our desire to adapt nature for our own purposes.
But it is the extraordinary diversity and vibrant sculptural forms of fruit which also fascinate me, their shapes and textures, which have drawn me to capture them on canvas.
